Welcome to Whomp In Canada! I can’t think of a better introduction to Whomp Canada than the video that was submitted last year to Artist Voices at GoFish. The video, Lay Your Hat in Canada, was created by Northern Soul otherwise known to me as Canadian_soul905. We may be a small country when compared to our neighbours to the South but we managed to keep Do I Make You Proud on the Canadian Singles Charts for 15 weeks even without radio play. If you have not had the opportunity to see this video, please check it out at: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v3298436JH8qw4T4 I would like to sincerely thank Whomp Swamp/The Taylor Hicks Community for opening a Canadian “Suite” on their Board and offering us a place to “lay our hats”. Just as the video suggests, we are spread out from Coast to Coast on various Taylor Hicks Fan Boards. I think that this is wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together and get to know one another. On a personal note, when Taylor appeared on American Idol, my family and friends were all watching the show. As the weeks went on, everyone was excited about Taylor and his talent. We were very hopeful that he would win the title. During that time, we often had conversations discussing each episode. Everyone in my circle was ecstatic when Taylor was crowned with the American Idol title. When the season ended, my friends and family went back to their busy lives. I, on the other hand, decided to pursue the meaning of Soul Patrol. There was rarely a conversation where I did not bring up Taylor and his concert tour. I can’t honestly say for sure what they thought as I, the “walking Wikpedia” rambled on and then, of course, I would tell them about my new hobby of making videos. As time went on, I was the local source of any information about Taylor Hicks. I must admit I felt like I was walking down a lonely highway sometimes. This, of course, does not mean that my friends and family lost interest in Taylor’s career. The truth is that they did not ever hear anything in the news about him. Many are totally unaware of his talents such as playing the guitar or the harmonica. Few knew that there had been a CD released or a book. Needless to say, I was only too happy to share his many concert videos with them and I even distributed some DVDs of the Torrington Concert with the permission of TaysHarmonica, of course. Through my involvement as a member of TOSP, I was very fortunate to make new “cyber” friends who understood where I “was” as I am sure that many of you have experienced as well. I have enjoyed beginning new friendships and meeting some of the people in person at a couple of concerts that I was able to attend. I know that many of you have some wonderful stories to tell. I would really appreciate your participation in Whomp Canada. When you make your first post, if you are not comfortable saying which Province you reside in, could you please tell us what part of Canada you are from – Western, Eastern or Central Canada. I think that this will enable us to gain an understanding of how far and wide the Canadian Soul Patrol really is. I am a resident of Ontario. I would like to make a suggestion. Let’s consider Whomp Canada as a visit to our neighbourhood Tim Horton’s. Every Canadian knows how dear Tim’s is to us. So, while we are standing in line (which usually there is one), we could catch up on the headlines, make small talk with the people in line, linger if we have time and exchange thoughts and ideas. Together we will try to gain an understanding of the Canadian music scene and other relevant information. I am looking forward to 2008, Taylor’s continued success and to getting to know my fellow Canadian Taylor Hicks Fans. It is great to have you aboard! Now, will that be a Regular or Double Double? Hi, KarinP - I'll have a single black decaff. It's nice to meet you!I'm from Nova Scotia in eastern Canada. I've been a die-hard Taylor fan since the moment of his AI audition. I spend time on Taylor boards every day, and have collected a huge number of audio and video downloads of him, which I enjoy over and over again. I have a grown son, and a 9-year-old grandson, who are the lights of my life. My son and I share a love of music and movies. He leans toward heavier rock, and I lean toward more bluesy stuff, but we share a lot of musical tastes in common too, like good melodic pop/rock. For example, we have attended an INXS concert together. My son is very supportive and respectful about my appreciation of Taylor, even though he's not into Taylor's particular style of music. I was fortunate enough to see Taylor in concert once, when I made a trip to Minneapolis last spring. The concert was wonderful, and I met a lot of nice people there. My hope is that Taylor will tour Canada one day; if that happens, you can bet I'll be in the audience at least once. I'm looking forward to the Whomp At The Warfield DVD and Taylor's next cd. I think he's just an outstanding talent, and it's going to be a joy to watch his career over the coming years. |

Canadianna, Welcome to TTHC! A single black decaf is coming your way! It is great to meet you too and I hope that we can gather more Canadian fans to this thread. I am so glad that you have had the opportunity to see Taylor in concert. Everyone needs to experience Taylor "live" at least once. I hope that Taylor will visit Canada some day too as there are many Canadians who enjoy his music. My daughters also attended an INXS concert and they really enjoyed it. It is really nice to hear that your son is very supportive and respectful of your appreciation for Taylor. I hope that you will share your concert experience on the "Talk About It" thread on this Board. I would love to read about your concert experience. Thank you very much for dropping by and hopefully, we will have much more to discuss in the future. :) |

I'd like a large double-double & half dozen assorted Timbits. Well, here we are- sitting around the table in our favourite coffee shop "Taylor-talking". Great to see that there are other Canadian soul Patrollers around, and not just Karin & me. I had the extreme pleasure of attending 5 concerts last year- 4 in March- in Huntsville AL, Nashville TN, and the 2 in B'ham. Then I had the joy of meeting up with my girl Karin in Niagara Falls NY, with her sister, and me with my friend. I did hear him say that he was going to be touring Canada soon- he said that in response to a GoFish video that had been posted for him during "Artist's Voices", but so far, that has yet to happen. So, what can we do to speed up this process? I'm ready to go on a road trip with my stale Timbits, rope, handcuffs, Canadian flag, and poster of William Shatner. I think that should do it............... Hope to hear from more Canadians soon. |

Annie, this Canadian thread would never be complete without you! Your list of "supplies" sounds more than adequate to me. I am not sure what we can do to "speed up" the process but we will just have to keep doing what we have done in the past. Keep telling our Canadian friends about Taylor and his talent. I think that the recent appearance on Regis and Kelly certainly gave Taylor a boost in Canada. The Canadian Amazon numbers earlier this week were pretty impressive. Hopefully, the Canadian Soul Patrol will help get this Country ready for Taylor's arrival and we will show him some great Canadian hospitality when he arrives. When he does come to Canada, he won't be coming alone. Some of our U.S. friends are planning on paying us a visit too. I think we have a great reunion in store for us! Thanks for posting, Annie! When you have a few minutes, hop over to the "In Your Words" thread and post about your concert tour. I am sure that many would love to read about your trip. I am really looking forward to seeing you again. I hope you are surviving all of the cold temperatures and snow we have had this month.

I am a Canadian by marriage...LOL! And also by granny blood. My grandmother was born in Russia, but settled for a while in Wnnipeg until she met my Grandpa and moved to Detroit. My husbands family is mostly from Brantford, Ontario down the street from the old Gretsky house :) The rest went to New York and his mom moved to Detroit, but when they came over from Greece, they came to Ontaria and have been there ever since. We go to Brantford at least four times a year! Here is my uncle's famous Canadian Joke...lol. Know how they named Canada? Two men were in a boat exploring and they came upon a beautiful and serene piece of land. They decided to "discover" it and were thinking of a name. Here is their dialog... "How about C eh? "How about N eh? "How about D eh?

Gypsee, it is great to know that you have some Canadian blood running through your veins and the fact that you are married to a Canadian definitely qualifies you as an "honorary" Canadian citizen in my book. Loved the joke. Yes, you defnitely have our number with the "eh"! I am looking forward to meeting up with you when you visit your hubby's family in Brantford. It is not far from me and I am usually there every week. Walter Gretsky is a very familiar face in Brantford and he always plays a prominent role in so many worthwhile charity events too. |

Can someone from down below stop by and say Hi! I honeymooned in Canada many years ago! Does that count?? I loved Montreal but I am sure it has changed since then! May I ask a question, or do you want to keep your Canadian secrets among yourselves?? What are Timbits? If you want to have secrets, I understand!! Glad you are here....I love Lay Your Hat in Canada and Something More by your Canadian Idol! Edited by san, Feb 17 2008, 08:55 PM.
