We were discussing whether this recent change is due to the fairly decent B-ball coverage Taylor received. He got mentioned in many articles ( sometimes humorously , since it was a fun event ,this was to be expected and desired ) and his picture was prominently displayed in papers and on TV. Several Sports Commentators said "And he can sing". ...... That's sports commentator credibility for ya. |

That Amazon sales ranking is a mystery to me. Wonder what makes it bounce up and down so...?? I know there are lots of theories, but who's right? |

Taylor is way down in the thousdands . When you get that far down...... the ranking can be determined by sales of as few as 2-4 CDs ..... and remember....it's calculating a 24 hour period.... so the 6 p.m. sales are counting from 6 p.m. Sunday night to 6 p.m. Monday night. The 9 p.m. from 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 p.m Monday. So....other factors skew that you cannot predict... like when the new drops hit the market . So all the ones below 2000 may sell just like they have been, but there will be 60 or 70 new ones selling like fire.....which will blow the rankings down for the old ones.... OR..... there may be the grammy's on TV ..... at 8 p.m. on Sunday ...... which will cause all of those artists previously below to rise..... There are so many variables. But it is always a 24 hr. calculation. 7:00 Pm today will be judge in comparison to 7:00 PM yesterday, etc. I got this information from someone who knows. I don't profess to be an expert on Amazon rankings................ I hope this helps a bit. |

mouser - you are absolutely correct. Any ranking below about 1,000 can change drastically by the sale of just a few CDs. Once a CD is ranked at about 500 or above, it takes a lot more sales to make it move. And, of course, when you get into the top 100, then it takes a whole lot more. What I find interesting to watch is the upward bump that a CD gets from a magazine article, an interview on radio or TV or, of course the best, a singing appearance. As you said, the ranking is based on the previous 24 hours. It's a "rolling" 24 hour period. So, right now as I type, the Amazon ranking would reflect all sales from noon Tuesday thru noon Wednesday. At 1pm, the ranking would reflect all sales from 1 pm Tuesday thru 1 pm today. As time goes on, the new hour is added and the oldest hour gets dropped off, so it's always reflecting the past 24 hours..... Clear as mud???? LOL Edited by Taymanfan, Feb 20 2008, 11:59 AM.
