A BIRTHDAY PRESENT...

Elaine
Posted on TaylorHicksHeadQuarters

I was there at the Warfield and saw Taylor and his band. My daughter and sister came with me and we arrived around 1:00 P.M. We met up with other fans that I had been communicating with on the net. Tina made us some very special laminates for this event. I did not know if I got a meet and greet until I showed up. When I finally met Taylor and had him sign my laminates, he said "cool laminate". I told him that Tina had made some for him and she was at the end of the line. He shook my hand and signed everything. I asked him if he could come and perform in my area. I had my picture taken with him and my daughter gave it to me for a birthday present.

When we got in the theater we sat about 25 feet away from the stage. Being that it was filmed, there were cameras everywhere. They started off filming outside and hopefully we'll be able to see ourselves in the DVD.

When Taylor arrived on stage, the fans went wild. We stood up the whole time and enjoyed every minute. Some crazy fans threw Taylor their thongs. It was cute to see Taylor dodge them.

Taylor was outstanding, as usual, and when it was over, I was disappointed. The time went by so fast. The first song that Taylor performed was "Gonna Move" (my favorite on his CD). Later he came out in a Barry Bonds shirt and played a little on the organ.

The whole thing was fantastic and being that my birthday was the day before, It was the best present ever.

TAYLOR GLOWED!

VICKERS
Posted on TaylorHicksHeadquarters

I loved this concert! I saw him @ Angels in San Jose after the AI concert there but nothing I saw there & @ HOB in L.A., Ca. was as good as this night! THIS was by far the best of the 3! Dont get me wrong, he was fantastic at all but @ this one he positively GLOWED (not like I do when my face it oily, but from the inside out..lol) I remember sitting by a really nice lady who brought a friend who knew nothing about Taylor. She was blown away...& thats an understatement. She kept looking at me & saying "WOW!" or "He's so damn adorable performing!" And when he dodged the undies thrown at him with that look on his face it was hilarious! Loved all the songs..seriously, I cant say one was better then the other. Yes, I also loved when he came out with the Giants shirt on! You know the night was a blur, but I do believe he jumped up on the huge speakers on stage at one point! Can someone back me on that one? Wooooooo! Cant wait to see this show again! And I will share it with alot of people who dont know much about Taylor beyond AI...lots at work. We'll get his next CD earning points early!

BIRTHDAY AT THE WARFIELD...

iluvtaylor333
Posted on The Boogie Board

I attended Taylor's concert on May 9, 2007 at the Warfield in San Francisco. I apologize for such a long entry, but it was such a great event for me. So I am letting the Swamp know.....

On Taylor's birthday, I was fortunate to watch "Whomp at the Warfield" on HD NetTV and I really think that during the real concert I was in a trance because the evening was so exciting. After seeing it again, it was wonderful to re-live the concert.

The following is my recollection of my experience at the Warfield. It was such a perfect time because my 19 year old daughter came with me because it was my 48th birthday present, and this was only the second concert I have ever attended in my life because I don't like crowds, and I never would have thought I could ever stand for 3 hours for anybody!...but I did.

So here is my story about the Warfield. I am so excited that the DVD is going to be released. It couldn't have been any less than perfect. My birthday, front center stage, sharing the experience with my daughter, and having a copy of a DVD from one of the best nights of my life???

When I found out that Taylor Hicks was finally coming to California, I decided to buy tickets to his concert at the Warfield in San Francisco on May 9, 2007. I purchased them through the Taylor Hicks Headquarters PreSale hoping I would get a Meet and Greet. The tickets arrived on May 7th. It was so exciting to open the envelope and see the tickets in print.

The plan was for my daughter and I to go to the concert together. On Tuesday evening, my daughter was at her youth group and was playing a church game. That evening, she accidentally fell on her right wrist and fractured 2 bones in her right hand. Both of us were in Urgent Care until 10:30 pm the night before the Taylor Hicks concert. At that point, both of us realized we may have to miss the concert. She was in a lot of pain and I felt so bad for her, but she made it through the night and decided she wanted to go anyway, broken wrist or not! In the morning, we dropped my younger daughter off at 8:00 am at a friends home and we were on our way to see Taylor Hicks in concert!

As usual I had a difficult time with finding San Francisco, let alone the hotel! If it wasn’t for the GPS I have in my car, I’m not sure if we would have made it. We finally did after stopping at a truck stop to pick up a map of San Francisco.

The first thing was to park the car and we found parking next to the Adante hotel for $20.00 overnight. As we checked in, we met a woman at the desk who was going to the Soul Patrol sidewalk party. She had already seen Taylor in concert 4 times.

We checked out the room and it was small, but cute. There wasn’t any air conditioning, but we just opened the window before meeting the Soul Patrollers at the planned Soul Patrol Sidewalk Party. At the Adante Hotel, we asked the counter guy where the Warfield was and he took out a map and highlighted the way to get there. He said it was about 15 minutes away. So we began walking, and walking, and walking. San Francisco is really strange. It got hot, then cold, then hot, then cold. There were people everywhere of all types. Different cultures, rich, and a lot of poor and physically challenged people. We walked through parts of the Tenderloin district which is the poorest, most drug ridden square mile in California. There were people sleeping on the sidewalk and in the park and people begging for money.

It was getting exciting as we looked for the Soul Patrollers. When we got to Market Street we asked a UPS guy where the Warfield was and he said keep going down Market Street and it’s on the left side. We finally got to the Warfield and we saw the words “Taylor Hicks” on the marquee! We were supposed to be there at 1:00 pm but it was already 2:30 pm. We met a small group of "hard core" Soul Patrollers and we showed them our badges, which were assigned to us a couple of months before the concert.

As we introduced ourselves, we found out that the concert was going to be filmed for Taylor’s first concert DVD! The fans were chatting and showing pictures of Taylor and gifts they planned to give him. Many of them had received Meet and Greets and were very excited.

The line at the Warfield was growing! The excitement started to build and I was so excited realizing I was going to be close to the stage to see Taylor!. I didn’t know how close, but I knew I had a good chance to be next to the stage.

The lucky ones who got a Meet and Greet were tagged and lined up to see Taylor! Although I didn’t get a Meet and Greet, it was still fun watching their reactions as they came out. They got to go in, say hello to Taylor, get something autographed, and take a picture with him.

One lady was a crack up. She came out laughing and giddy with her Soul Patrol Sidewalk Badges tangled around her neck. She was so excited she forgot to take a picture of Taylor and her together, but the staff reminded her. We looked at the pictures and got silly and talked about how cute Taylor is.

It was almost time to open the doors to the Warfield. I cannot explain the anticipation I had to get in there. I was on a mission. The doors opened and my daughter followed me. We gave the guy our tickets and went straight for the stage. The Warfield looked a lot like the Birdcage Theater in Oakhurst, except it had a balcony. There were tables and chairs set up on the lower floor which was really a surprise, but we nestled in quickly and sat down. The lady we met at the hotel lobby hung out with us. They served food and drink and we waited for the concert to start.

Before the show started, my daughter told me that I had a Mother’s Day/Birthday present coming and I could pick out a Taylor Tee Shirt if I wanted. I decided it would be best to purchase one before the concert because I knew that there would be a crowd after the concert. I went to the booth and picked out a neat T-shirt with Taylor's Tour Dates Listed. It was exciting!

As I walked back to our seats, I noticed that one woman who was the main Soul Patroller was concerned about the chairs being on the floor. There was a plan to move the chairs as soon as the music started, but I could only imagine once the concert started everyone getting up and food going everywhere. She convinced everyone to slowly move their chairs and when the music began, we were able to huddle to the stage. I moved right up FRONT, CENTER!

The band members came out and started playing and everyone was holding their breath to see Taylor. After a short time, he came out and my heart raced! He was absolutely amazing! I was in a different world! During his first song, I noticed that my daughter was about 3 rows behind me. Here she was in an arm sling because of a broken wrist the night before! I wanted her up front. Luckily, I was able to look back and slowly move her next to me.

Everyone just yelled Woooohhhhh!!!! I was in awe. Taylor sang his heart out throughout the concert. He danced like crazy. He played the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, keyboard, and even a bell. He was all over the stage. The sound was excellent and he didn’t miss a note! He sang a lot of songs from his album, but he also included rock and roll, and slowed it down with The Fall, which I absolutely loved!

During the concert someone in the audience flung a thong on the stage. Then another came, and Taylor said “Three times a charm!” A third one came flying out on the stage and he swooshed to the right like he was afraid of it. The expression on his face was so funny! He just kept going and going, dancing, and playing. He wore jeans and a brown jacket and had these really funky alligator boots. His feet looked really big! At one point, I was so close I reached out and touched his boot. There were 6 camera men taping the concert so sometimes I had to move back and let the camera man in front of me. There was so much Wooooohhhhing!!! and screaming going on. It was a blast. I took as many pictures as I could but when he was only 6 inches away and I was looking up at him, I didn’t take any. I was mesmerized. My daughter took a couple of videos on her cell phone. Everyone was going crazy! I was chanting WWOOOHHH!!! I didn’t pay attention to my feet. I didn’t notice anything about standing for 3 hours as I had anticipated.

As he was finishing his last song, he reached out his hand along the front row. Everyone's hand was outstretched hoping for a touch from Taylor. He brushed as many of the hands he could. I felt his hand brush mine. He was sweaty and it was so cool! He did it twice and I was close enough both times!

He ended the concert, or so we thought when he left the stage and everyone started calling him back for an encore. I saw the stage crew giving him his guitar on the right side of the stage behind the curtain and he came running out with a Giant’s baseball shirt. We thought we would only get one more song, but he did 3!

It was absolutely amazing! It was one of the most fun, most exciting nights of my life! I cannot remember it all. The night was incredible. Taylor was incredible. What a night I will never forget. My 19 year old daughter who loves me enough to "tag along" just for my birthday really loved him too after that concert. We had a wonderful night and a great time!

After the concert, there was a rumor that Taylor might show up at the Biscuits and Blues Jazz Nightclub, so my daughter, our friend, and I walked a few blocks to get there. It took a while for the soul patrollers to arrive, but they finally showed up. There was a band playing and they were pretty good, but they played for over 2 hours and only 3 of Taylor’s band members showed up. It was still worth the wait, just in case he showed up. He didn’t, but it was worth making sure we didn't miss him.

It was past midnight so we decided to call it a night and we walked back to the hotel. In the morning my daughter and I stopped at Denny’s for breakfast. We talked about the concert and she said it was so funny watching all the moms and grandma’s rocking out. We laughed and just had a wonderful time.

This was my best birthday ever! Thank you Taylor for bringing so much joy and wonderful memories!!

I cannot wait to buy "Whomp at the Warfield!"

It was so much fun reading your posts! I wasn't there, but I was at the House of Blues in Vegas just a few day earlier. I don't have HDNet, so I haven't seen the telecasts of the concert. I'm just waiting as patiently as I can for the release of "Whomp at the Warfield". Sure hope it's not too far off.....I want it in my DVD player....NOW!!!! lol

Hey San, were you up there with Navymom and Gypsee?? I was waving at them from the floor but I don't think they saw me. I think on that night a seat might have been nice (and it looked like they had pretty good ones). I was getting too crushed near the stage so I stood over by the bar...still a great view and I really enjoyed it!

Yes, GrannyforTay! I was sitting next to Navymom and Allyn was sitting next to me! Gypsee was on the other side of Navymom! I was glad to be sitting that night! We could see very well....of course, the balcony is not like experiencing a Taylor concert front row center! Las Vegas was fun...I hadn't been there for years...in fact, Allyn and I had a close encounter with Taylor, sort of. We were walking away from the ticket counter next to where everyone was lined up to go in...Taylor came out of his sound check and we could have reached out and touched him...didn't since there were uniformed security around him! It was cool seeing him escorted by guards through the busy casino...kind of like the rock star he is!!!
