This is another example of Taylor's contribution to Habitat for Humanity. The Wayne Hayes Concert CD proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity......... "Walking to New Orleans" and "I Shall be Released" are filled with Taylor playing the harp and singing .......... ![]() This is a 5 star concert dvd in all aspects. First, the net proceeds from this concert and dvd go to “Habitat for Humanity”. Second, you get an Allstar Lineup consisting of: Dave Matthews, The John Popper Project (formerly related to “Blues Travler”), Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, The New Orleans Social Club, The Taj Mahal Trio, and many others. Third, you get “Once in a lifetime” collaborations among these allstars. This concert is one of the greatest of all time, but somehow the word is not getting out about how good it is. That is way I’m updating my review!!! Warren Haynes, who is a member of the Allman Brothers Band, has his own band “Government Mule”. He has been doing this benefit concert in Ashville, North Carolina for 18 years. Now, the music, it begins with a pre-jam session at a small venue. The main concert begins with the Taj Mahal Trio performing some great blues classics. Other highlights include: Marty Stuart and his fabulous superlatives, they have a touch of bluegrass with gospel leanings. The John Popper Project performs excellent jam music with great harmonica work. The New Orleans Social Club performances are outstanding, soulful, and they Rock!!! They do an outstanding job on the old CCR song “Fortunate Son”. The performances by Warren Haynes and Government Mule are outstanding, especially their performance of a reggae version of “Soulshine”. There are also guest musicians which include Dave Mathews, Branford Marsalis (he is phenomenal on the saxaphone), Taylor Hicks, and Randall Bramblett on saxaphone. Taylor Hicks sings and plays great harmonic music. There are some outstanding collaborations in this concert, which make it more special. The harmonica work, along with the saxaphones, in these collaborations are awesome. There is bonus material, which includes an outstanding collaboration of “Walking to New Orleans”, plus “I Shall Be Release”. The concert is about 2 hours and 45 minutes. This is an outstanding concert dvd. If you like jam band music, you’ll enjoy every minute of this dvd. It’s for a worthy cause, and the music is great. I highly recommend it. This is a “Must-Have” for any music lover period!!! Thanks, and may God Bless!!!! Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 8 Overview Recorded live at Warren Haynes 18th Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, NC on December 16th, 2006 at the Asheville Civic Center, The Benefit Concert Volume 8 is the third release in an on-going series documenting the annual concerts. As with each previous benefit, all proceeds from this series of concerts and CD and DVD releases benefit Habitat For Humanity, an international non-profit organization dedicated to building housing for those in need of shelter. The 2006 concert saw Warren Haynes put together a stellar lineup of musicians featuring Gov t Mule, Dave Matthews, The New Orleans Social Club, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, The Taj Mahal Trio and The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic. Warren Haynes also welcomed very special guests Randall Bramblett, Taylor Hicks, Branford Marsalis, Mike Barnes, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson & Family), Brendan Bayliss (Umphrey s McGee), Kevn Kinney (Drivin N Cryin), Robert Kearns (The Bottle Rockets) and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic). The Benefit Concert Volume 8 offers more than 3 hours of incredible music from The New Orleans Social Club s version of Creedence Clearwater Revival s Fortunate Son featuring Branford Marsalis to Gov t Mule and Dave Mathews scorching cover of Neil Young s Cortez The Killer to the all-star I Shall Be Released finale. By A Thread Live at Bonnaroo The Benefit Concert, Vol. 2 Customer Reviews Warren Haynes – Richard Glenn – Fort Valley Georgia I am a fan of Warren Haynes period. However this Dvd just lagged. I had hoped that the Dvd would have been better. I guess when you recored and tour all the time things great are what the end result should be. I think that this is what kills most jam or jam bands they all have so many shows out there by way of legal or bootlegers. I hope one day Warren will do a great solo live album/Dvd release with a gret all-star band but til then we will have in our collection what’s out there. If you are a Warren Haynes fan and have attended his Christmas Jams then you will love this release. I am one who loves him and his music with or without the Allman Brothers or Gov’t Mule. Thank you Warren – G. Hakala – Mpls, USA 1st off, the title IS filmed in widescreen. 2cd, you need to “select” the “audio” button on your clicker to change to 5.1. No audio selection included on setup menu? Now, if you have ‘The Deepest End” get this title. AND OR, if you like good blues, jazz and Southern R&R – buy it. BC, Warren Haynes is one of the best pickers on the Planet. *** Product Information and Prices Stored: Mar 11, 2010 09:13:00 http://bestbuydavematthewsonsale.alllinkblog.com/lowest-price-warren-onsale-11-84/ Edited by mouser, Mar 11 2010, 11:01 AM.

I don't think we are going to get many details on Taylor's participation in this effort as this project is part of the Lenten Service by the Churches of Birmingham: People have been volunteering to finish these homes before Easter. Taylor will be but one of many who will lend a hand on March 18 for most of the day............ Stories from The Birmingham News Churches collaborate for Lent, build houses for Habitat for Humanity By Greg Garrison -- The Birmingham News February 28, 2010, 10:42AM FRANK COUCH/BIRMINGHAM NEWS http://blog.al.com/birmingham-news-stories/2010/02/churches_collaborate_for_lent.html CAPTION UNDER THE PICTURE: David Rozendale of Independent Presbyterian Church hammers with help from Concordia College students Anne Boyd and Sarah Brill. With a chill wind whipping them at times, volunteer builders from CrossPoint Church in Argo, Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham and a Minnesota college pounded away last week in Wylam on six Habitat for Humanity houses being built for Lent. "You have all the different denominations coming out working in partnership to help these homeowners," said Beth Jerome, spokeswoman for Habitat. "It's a nice Lenten message." The keys to the six houses will be handed over to families on Good Friday, Jerome said. "They can move in over Easter weekend." The houses are in Wylam Oaks, a subdivision started by Habitat for Humanity in August 2008 that will be completed with a total of 38 homes by October, Jerome said. U.S. Steel donated the land for the subdivision. Nathan Lovvorn of CrossPoint Church, who put his home renovation business on hold for the week, said the church's mission building team got started in earnest last weekend after being dampened by weather here on a previous weekend. "We got snowed out," he said. A team of as many as 40 builders from Crosspoint has framed and roofed two houses. On the same street, Independent Presbyterian volunteers worked alongside students from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. The students from the Lutheran school were the first group from several colleges traveling to Alabama to help the Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity. "We expect about 400 students throughout the next couple months doing an alternative spring break, swinging hammers with Habitat instead of going to Panama City," Jerome said. Last year, 21 Birmingham- area churches cooperated on Habitat "Building on Faith" projects; that's increased this year to 23, Jerome said. It's an interdenominational effort featuring Baptists, Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists and Presbyterians pitching in. "There's always room for more churches," Jerome said. More than 100 families will receive help in the Birmingham area this year with new houses or renovation and repairs on existing houses, Jerome said. Those receiving homes commit to 300 hours of sweat equity, helping with other people's houses along with their own. "You give before you receive," Jerome said. Other participating churches are All Saints' Episcopal, Anniston First Wesleyan, Asbury United Methodist, Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian, Edgewood Presbyterian, Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles, First Baptist Church of Alabaster, First United Methodist Church of Alabaster, Highlands United Methodist Church, Lakeside Baptist, Liberty Crossings United Methodist, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic, Prince of Peace Catholic, St. Luke's Episcopal, St. Mary's Episcopal, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic, St. Stephen's Episcopal, St. Thomas Episcopal and Trinity United Methodist Church. |
