What Kind of TV Roles Would You Like for Taylor?; Just for discussion

Since Taylor mentioned that after Grease he's got some possible TV and film roles for the summer/fall, I thought it might be fun to discuss what types of roles he might take-

We already know he can do musical comedy (because of Grease)-but what else?

Here are some roles I would imagine-keeping in mind that I don't watch the prime time network shows--

(1)-Supporting actor in a football movie-(similar to Tim McGraw)

(2)-the obvious-a lead role in an Elvis biopic-

(3) Guest host for Jay Leno

(4) Playing himself in the film adaptation of HFOS

(5) The next James Bond (sorry-I HAD to throw that one in!!)

How about you guys??

I agree with Taylor when he says he feels he should gradually get into the acting business. Better to do really well in a small part than to bomb with a role that is too challenging at this point in his career.

Guest spots on TV shows, either comedy or drama. ( Maybe a lawyer show where he is being stalked by a fan : no that is too close to reality lol ) A comedy where he is playing someone other than himself. I would not like to see him be self deprecating

A supporting role in another musical ( Gawd please not Hair as Ace is attempting )....

How about a western with Clint Eastwood.......he could wear that rhinestone tie that he had on in BeatWeek Magazine . He could wear his boots and his jeans. Heck any film producer should jump at the chance to get a guy who already has the wardrobe for the part...........would save him a few bucks.

He could also be on a remake of The Beverly Hillbillies: He could play Jethro Bodine the role made famous by Max Baer, Jr. or he could paly Dash Riprock who was in 10 episodes and was smitten with EllyMae.

I was thinking a TV remake of the Dukes of Hazzard-as John Schneider's character-

Okay, now I baptized my keyboard laughin' so hard! Great suggestions!!

Here come the rotten tomatoes but I am gonna go for it.

I think a soap opera, a NYC-based soap, cough-cough, might work out if he is amenable.

Here's my explanation before y'all toss those tomatoes.

Why a soap?

Soaps have long-time followers, thus exposing him to a completely new market, which could conceivably overlap with old Idol viewers who have not had the good sense to follow him since he won.

Soaps have so many roles, so many actors, that it's rare for an actor to appear daily. Taylor could begin with a small role, with a few lines of dialogue a day. This schedule will allow him to do other things professionally, which I'll point out in a minute.

Soaps are also good venues for short term (temporary) roles. And when the roles go longer, if the actor cannot accommodate that schedule, they simply recast.

Soaps over the last two decades have been attracted a younger audience. Forget the beautiful silver halo and look at that man's face: youthful and exuberant. Ain't no question.

They could write him into a role as a musician/singer. It's been done before, successfully, with musicians/singers who don't have one fraction of Taylor's talent (my apologies to Jack Wagner and that Livin' la Loca Vida guy whose name now escapes me, but it's the truth). Via this intro to new audiences, the actors'/musicians' music has subsequently appeared on commercial radio.

Last but not least, it's NYC. It ain't LA. He's comfy w/ the city (I hope), having been there for Grease and for so many Regis & Kelly and other talk show appearances. We'll treat him right; we've proven that we already have. The city offers the benefit of anonymity along with a healthy respect for celebrities. We are not afraid to approach celebrities and by and large, we know when to back off and give them their space. We have lots of little clubs, music clubs, all over the city. We have bigger venues, too: he's played the gorgeous Beacon and now the Filmore awaits him. We have recording studios. We have a serious music culture. We have the best indy DJ America has ever seen, alive and well in the Bronx (think: interviews, pray God). We still shoot some soaps here, and there is also a studio in Brooklyn where The Cosby Show, for one, was shot.

If he doesn't go to NYC, then let it be Chicago, or Atlanta, or Austin (Austin's good for the music!!!) -- someplace that, IMO, will really, truly show this man the respect he so richly deserves and allow him to breathe, at the same time, as the musician he is and the musician into which he is evolving.

Go rest ye eyes now. I have a lot of work to do so, LOL, y'all are safe for the moment from my long posts! Taylor too! :lm

Good Heavens! Did anyone take a breath? :hid Seriously, you all made some valid points here. I can clearly see Taylor stepping into some of these areas of entertainment. We all know what he is capable of. Now, for him to slip on his 'thinking cap' & decide where his heart, mind & energy leads him. Whatever he chooses, I know his growing confidence & curiosity will produce a solid outcome. So~the 'Marathon' continues!

I, for one, am not a big television watcher; but that can change. Given the right 'bait' ~ I can be persuaded! ;)

You don't want to get "hooked" on a soap opera Gr8fulheart ........ I don't think they are as popular as they once were .....the computer and DVD's have changed the viewing habits of "housebound housewives" ( yes I was part of that crowd at one time ) . Whatever happened to Rick Springfield and Gloria Loring ( who was married to Alan Thicke when she was in the soaps ) ?? Ricky Martin was the Livin' la Loca Vida guy.
I agree that New York would be a great place for filming, as Taylor could access clubs within a reasonable distance of the city. Not a bad idea Kat.

Yes, Gr8tful, I am now breathing normally, LOL.

Lest I gave anyone a false impression, I'd rather have a root canal or two than be tethered to the TIVO, watching taped episodes of a soap ... again. I did that for years, with General Hospital, but Commissioner Sean Donely was not savvy enough to run away with me. :lm

And like you, Gr8tful, I am not much of a TV watcher at all. I pretty much detest most of what is on, but if Taylor winds up on a soap, rest assured I know how I'll be spending 40 minutes of my life each night. :-)

mouser, you're correct. Soaps have gone through transitions much like other businesses. They have cut the older, more seasoned actors who pulled down the higher salaries, such as John Reilly, who played Sean Donely for 10 years, a prior role on another soap, and two subsequent roles on two more soaps. The viewing audience got a lot younger so they instituted younger actors. I still like the format of a soap for Taylor, just because of its reach and schedules and oh yeah, proximity to my city. :-) But only Taylor knows what's best for Taylor, indeed.

I don't have any idea.....I just know I'll have to get a bigger drive in my DVR cause I won't delete anything with Taylor in it. :lm :lm
