Spence, who collaborated with Taylor to create the incredible Seven Mile Breakdown video, that not only went to the top on Yahoo Music, but also broke onto the country genre, was kind enough to stop and answer some questions for us.

Thank you Spence !!

Q. You have said that this was the smoothest video shoot you have every done. What made it so smooth? Can you share a bit about the process?

A: Having a great crew always helps. Also, we shot in a small town an hour and a half out of Los Angeles. That made things a lot easier. Shooting in LA these days isn't quite as fun as it used to be. It also helps having a down to earth artist who understands the collaborative nature of filmmaking.

Q. Taylor always says he likes to be involved in all aspects of his music. Did this hold true for this video?

A: Yeah, he was very up front about some of the things he wanted to see. His number one priority was to see an audience and how the music moved the audience, which is what we tried to pull off with the field performance. Also, he was very particular when it came to the car, ha ha.

Q. What are the challenges in shooting the moving car scenes as opposed to the still ones?

A: There are challenges with every aspect of filmmaking. And actually, in this instance, the car shots were probably the smoothest part of the whole production. It would not have been that way had we been shooting in LA county. Our road permits were very generous, and gave us pretty much free range.

Q. Where did you obtain the car used in the video, and how did you decide on that one?

A: Taylor very specifically wanted a red corvette. It was a rental from a picture car company. Taylor had a car he wanted to use, but we couldn't get it in California in time.

Q. The video is such a perfect showcase for "Seven Mile Breakdown." Can you share a little about the process of creating the atmosphere and tone that worked so well?

A: Thanks. There are certain techniques that are appropriate for certain jobs, but at the same time, it's good to spice things up a little bit as well, and throw in little extra bits. It's my job to oversee everything and think of it as a whole from the cinematography, casting, set dressing etc. It's great to have such an amazing crew that can help me achieve that.

Q. We know creating a quality video involves many takes and retakes. How did you keep the energy level up for everyone involved?

A: In order to get everything we needed in a one day shot, we were constantly moving and changing things up. I think that helped keep the energy going. Also, we shot on lighter HD cameras with Cinema Lenses which helped us move just that much quicker as well. I also try to keep the energy up by just laughing and hanging with my crew and artists. We all have a great job, and it's easy to fall into the "machine" aspects of filmmaking, but I try to keep the heart on set so we don't become robots. :-)

Q. Were there any standout or memorable moments during the shooting?

A: It all becomes a blur by the next day, but Taylor and I had a great time in the car during the driving stuff.

Q. What is your favorite type of video to shoot and why?

A. I just love making music videos in general. I love music of all kinds, and I love film making, so to me I have the best job in the world.

I wonder which car this was........... also a red corvette?????

I was curious about the ligher HD camera. Found out it just means that there is no tape drive which, literally , makes the camera lighter. Just in case anyone else was pondering this . Guess it was just me , huh ????

I am also assuming that , other than the car scene, most of the video was fairly easy to set up and film. ( bedroom, kitchen, field )

It was really nice of Spence to take time to answer some of our questions. Thank you so much.

Thanx to Spence & Taylor for a great SMB video! Since I was born & raised in the country, the video was quite 'homey' to me.
One question: Was the bike rider aware he was part of the video? :lm
